The 'fishing village without a harbor'. Boekhoute or 'Bouchaute' had a fishing harbor until 1952, when the Dutch closed off the Braakman with a dike to reclaim this piece of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen.
On the village square of Boekhoutedorp, memories of the fishing and war past are kept alive. You will find, among other things, the remains of the fishing boat BOU 8 and a statue honoring the shrimp fishermen.
In the old Town Hall, a Fishing Museum is housed, and in the Holy Cross Church, you can visit an exhibition about the village during the Second World War.
