Luise Duchess of Mecklenburg [-Strelitz], known as Queen Luise, full name: Luise Auguste Wilhelmine Amalie Duchess of Mecklenburg (* March 10, 1776 in Hanover; † July 19, 1810 at Hohenzieritz Castle), was the wife of King Friedrich Wilhelm III . of Prussia.

Contemporaries described her as beautiful and graceful, her casual manners seemed more bourgeois than aristocratic. Her life was closely linked to the dramatic events in Prussia's fight against Napoleon Bonaparte. Since she died early, she remained young and beautiful in the imagination of future generations. Even during her lifetime she became the object of almost cult worship. After her death, this trend increased. As the mother of Kaiser Wilhelm I, she became a symbol for the resurgence of Prussia and for the development towards the German Empire. So her historical importance lies in the legendary fame she actually had as Queen of Prussia.
