The foundation stone for the current castle was laid in 1480 by the Šlik family. They converted the old water fortress, which had probably existed for more than 200 years, into a rectangular castle with four towers. In 1648 the castle was conquered and destroyed by the Swedes. Therefore, after the Thirty Years' War, the then owner Jan Hartvik Nostic decided to rebuild it into a more modern representative residence. The castle became a late Renaissance chateau, which was later adapted to the taste of the time in the Baroque style. At the beginning of the 19th century the chateau was rebuilt again in the classicist style. After the Second World War the Czechoslovak army was stationed here for many years. In 1993 and 1994 the chateau was completely reconstructed. It currently houses the town library and the Sokolov Regional Museum with its exhibition on the history of the region and mining and related production.

The castle has been renovated and is close to the center of Falkenau. It houses the City Museum and belongs to the Counts Schlick and Nostitz.

In the yard stands a fountain with fishing motives. Definitely worth seeing! At the castle there is a park that invites for a walk.

The castle was built on the foundations of the former moated castle. It was built around 1663 in the late Renaissance style. Today it is used as a museum and used for weddings. A detour is definitely worth it.
