Part of the municipality of Collio, in Slovenia, Medana is famous above all for being the birthplace of the famous Slovenian poet Alojz Gradnik. Considered by literary critics to be the most important Slovenian poet of the first half of the twentieth century, Gradnik was also important for a rich work of translation into Slovenian of authors such as Dante, Petrarca, Leopardi and Foscolo. In Medana he is still remembered thanks to festivals dedicated to poetry and wine.
