      The lighthouse, which is still in use, is an octagonal tower with a range of 18 nautical miles. The history of the building dates back to 1537, when it was built on this site by the hermits. Farol da Guia remains a major tourist attraction and a must-see in Cascais.



      Cabo da Guia's location at the mouth of the Tagus River has made it an important location for shipping. For these reasons, a lighthouse was built here to mark the way for ships.
