Cadiz Cathedral is a good landmark if you get lost in the old town. And the plaza with a view of the impressive sandstone facade invites you to take a coffee break. The church, which is based on the Renaissance church in Granada, was begun in 1720 but was not completed until 1830. The back of the monumental building with the white neoclassical facade and the two towers borders the sea.
What is striking is the shiny dome decorated with yellow tiles, which contrasts with the pastel-colored houses in the Plaza de la Catedral. Worth seeing in the interior, which is designed with marble columns, are the altar and the choir stalls made of mahogany wood. The Spanish composer Manuel de Falla is buried in the crypt. A five-meter-tall silver monstrance is displayed in the treasury. On the right tower there is a viewing platform, to which a staircase-free serpentine path leads up.
