The Fiskumfoss is a salmon spawning place in the Namsen. Here is the longest salmon staircase in Northern Europe. It is 291m long but only the highest 90m are visible as the rest was blown into the rock under the waterfall. The rise of the salmon in the staircase varies from year to year, and is mainly controlled by the water level in Namsen. The climb starts in early July and ends on October 30th, with an average of between 1,000 and 1,500 salmon per year.
