Above the entrance to the church hall is an inscription in Latin, stating that the church was consecrated in 1481 in honor of St. Martin. In the mid-15th century, the Württemberg monastery of Herrenalb purchased the town of Gechingen from the Counts Palatine of Tübingen. When the Reformation came to Württemberg in 1534, it also came to Gechingen. The congregation was assigned to the deanery of Calw, to which it remains to this day. In 1743, the church was enlarged and renovated. No documentation of this remains. The only evidence is a red sandstone rosette bearing the date 1743, which can be seen above the church hall entrance. In 1953 and 1954, the interior of the church was fundamentally redesigned. The removal of the enormous galleries brought new emphasis to the beauty of the nave. The organ was moved to the side gallery, and a dividing wall on the west side created the church hall, which was urgently needed for congregational work. The last renovation of our church took place in 2005. The church square was resurfaced, a new heating system was installed, and some of the pews in the front section were removed and replaced with chairs, allowing the space to be designed and used more flexibly, for example, for new forms of worship.

According to an inscription, the church was consecrated in 1481. However, the church's patron saint, St. Martin, suggests an older origin. Before the Reformation, the Gechingen church belonged to the Weil der Stadt rural chapter of the Speyer diocese. During the Reformation in Württemberg, the church came under the Calw deanery. In 1561, the church was damaged by lightning. In 1743, there was a major reconstruction. In 1865/67, there was another reconstruction, during which the nave was given its current shape. As this made the tower look a little low, it was raised from 24 to 42 meters in 1875. In 1893, the church received heating, and in 1914, electric light. Severely damaged in the Second World War, the church was completely renovated in 1953/54.
