The square, which was newly created in 2020, is located at the north-east end of Benno-König-Straße in Berlin-Johannisthal. The S-Bahn station Johannisthal can be reached from the square via a pedestrian bridge. In the middle of the square, a framed track segment is reminiscent of the former Schöneweide marshalling yard that stretched here. The square was named after Gustav Hertz (1887-1975), a German physicist and Nobel Prize winner.
