Archaeological evidence indicates that Zyfflich was already inhabited in Roman and Merovingian times. Between 1002 and 1021, Count Balderich von Drenthe founded a convent dedicated to St. Martin. For this pin a new church was built, from which, despite numerous conversions inside significant parts have been preserved. 1436 the pin was relocated to Kranenburg. At Zyfflich stood from the 16th to the early 19th century, the noble residence Haus Germenseel.
