Ignatius Chapel

The "Große Kapellenrunde" hiking trail, which is very well marked with yellow and white arrows, naturally leads past the Ignatius Chapel. This circular hike is highly recommended! It begins at the basilica in Altenstadt and leads us up the Schellberg, offering great views of the Alps not only there.
"The exact year of construction of the Ignatius Chapel is not known. The chapel is already noted in the original cadastre of the community from 1825. Invoices from the years 1824/25 and 1871 for repairs to the chapel are also available in the community archive.
According to the findings of the church restorer Paul Rressel, the restored version of the interior probably dates from the third quarter of the 19th century. Further renovations were carried out in 1972, 1986, 1994 and 1997. The last exterior and interior renovations were completed in 2009 and 2010."
