Once you climb above the trees around Lanty's Tarn and onto the open moorland on the lower slopes of Birkhouse Moor, big views north along Ullswater unfold. It's nice being able to see down onto Glenridding and over the water to Place Fell. Climb a bit higher and the views get better, with imposing views of Helvellyn and it's ridges from the summit of Birkhouse Moor.
