Castle Altenstein is a small but beautiful castle. On the way to the castle you go through a gate. You can discover many small caves if you deviate from the main path. Beautiful flower beds have been created, a fountain adorns the castle park and wide views make Altenstein Castle a popular hiking destination ⛪⛲🌺🥾👍

The preserved historic side entrance still serves as access to the Altenstein Castle Park. A wide, paved driveway takes you straight to Altenstein Castle.

The Werra-Burgen-Steig with the signpost X5 is a 500 km long long-distance hiking trail.
It begins in Hann. Münden in southern Lower Saxony and runs along the Werra river through northeastern Hesse and western Thuringia to Masserberg.
The 128-kilometer section from Hann. Münden to Nentershausen with the special sign "X5 H" is certified as a quality hiking trail.
As early as 1885, hiking enthusiasts from the Werra Valley Association laid the oldest section from the Wartburg in Eisenach to Hann. Münden.
Divided by the inner-German border, further routes were laid out and combined after reunification.
The Werra-Burgen-Steig was extended in 2011 to the source of the Werra.(Source: Wikipedia)
