The Waldsee Lauer (also known under the name Wolfssee) was created in 1970 through gravel extraction work for the B2 in Markkleeberg. The name Waldsee Lauer is intended to recall the former Gut Lauer, a manor in the south of Leipzig, which had to give way to lignite mining.
