The first documented mention was in 1051, when Emperor Henry III. (HRR) transferred the church to the diocese of Hildesheim; it became an archdeaconate church. The archdeacon was also cathedral canon at Hildesheim Cathedral, including Dietrich von Dasle, who is documented in 1398. The place was regularly the seat of a broadcast court and a regional court.
