The Spielmannsteich was dredged in the 1950s, but has only been landscaped in Richmond Park since 1988. Since 1962, the Braunschweig Ship Model Club has been allowed to navigate the pond with its boats

The Spielmannteich is located in the southern part of Braunschweig. The body of water is located in the park of Richmond Castle and a little north-west of the Braunschweig-Süd motorway junction, where the A 39 and A 36 federal motorways intersect. Between Richmond Castle and the water, the Oker flows through the castle park. North of the body of water is the Kennel Bad and north-west of it is the grounds of the Eintracht Braunschweig youth academy. A circular path leads from Richmond Castle to the castle park, which also completely circles the body of water. The round temple is located on the west bank of the water. The body of water is surrounded by a large clearing on which there are only individual trees and trees standing in small groups. On the south-eastern edge of the bank there is a small forest, the foothills of which extend to the Braunschweig-Süd motorway junction.

A nice place to relax on the lawn between Castle Richmond and the pond.
