The word "Born" is the historical term for a well or spring. These sources have their origin in the volcanic activity around Amöneburg. The internal structure of the Vogelsberg essentially consists of an alternation of rock units (basalt and tuff), which primarily influence the groundwater and seepage water of the region. At the Stockborn there is an underground brick cavern that is more than 600 years old, in which the water from the surrounding springs is collected and drawn up with a hand pump.
