Built in 1891 and shut down in 1988, the former railway line "Samba-Trasse" is now an attractive cycling and hiking adventure trail with information boards on the history and national connections to the cycle path network. The natural path on the historic railway line runs over 10 km from Elberfeld to Cronenberg. As an inner-city cycle path, the former railway line offers a particularly comfortable cycle path connection. Largely free of crossings, with few inclines and without car traffic, you can usually get over the route faster by bike than by car over comparable routes. The bicycle enables everyone to be mobile at low cost, because there are no fuel or costly maintenance costs, vehicle taxes or parking fees when riding a bicycle. And the depreciation of a wheel is extremely low compared to that of a car. In addition to walking, cycling is the most climate and environmentally friendly means of transport: hardly any CO2 emissions, no noise and no pollutants. The city would like to become a city for bicycles – that is a major challenge in view of the pronounced topography and the densely populated valley axis. The new cycle traffic concept is an essential building block.
