The San Juan Bridge was built in 1930, four years after the other "iron bridge" in Seville, the Alfonso XIII Bridge, currently dismantled, and like that one, it was inaugurated by King Alfonso XIII. Practically, until the construction of the bridges of the Universal Exhibition of 1992, it was the only bridge that connected the South of Aljarafe with Seville, with the exception of the Rey Juan Carlos I bridge in 1981.
