From Faro there are regular boat connections to the Ilha do Farol, one of the islands that form the sandy border between the sea and the Ria Formosa and are part of the natural park.
On the truly paradisiacal island there is an almost deserted, wide sandy beach with a calm, crystal-clear sea and a small town called Farol, whose residents mainly fish or grow mussels in the water of the alluvium.
