Between the Lippe and Emscher rivers, the Rotbach is the third right-bank tributary in the region. At 21.9 kilometers, it is considerably shorter and a true gem. However, like the other rivers, the Rotbach was influenced by coal mining and, especially in its lower reaches, was channeled and dammed. Here, in its upper reaches, it winds in many small loops through the Hiesfeld Forest and has carved itself several meters deep into the soft marl soil. A wonderful nature experience, by bike or on foot! Of course, with due respect and consideration to protect this habitat.
