On August 28, 2025, the State Railway Authority in Cologne had no objections to the return of the RUR to service. As of this week, it is now a service locomotive within the TBR's operating time and is also officially permitted to be used. It passed its test run at the Märkisches Museums- Eisenbahn e.V. Hüinghausen, operated by the Sauerländer Kleinbahn. It was acquired by the Selfkanter Eisenbahn in Schierwaldenrath in 1972 and then by the Dutch KLEINBAHN Service B.V. Wim Pater in 2013, who facilitated its complete restoration.
