The church hiking trail connects the Saxon towns of Wehrsdorf and Lipová. In the past, residents of Wehrsdorf used this route to go to mass in the Lipová Church. In 2018, the path was renovated in cooperation with the city of Wehrsdorf and signposted for tourists. The parish of Wehrsdorf was attached to Hainspach until about 1620. The settlement and rulership relationships in Upper Lusatia and Bohemia were particularly closely intertwined up until the Thirty Years' War.
Ecclesiastical, state borders and cross-national administrative structures have often changed over the centuries. This resulted in a wide variety of overlaps between the respective sovereign interests.
From this historical background it can be explained that church affairs were chosen to go further to Hainspach instead of to the nearby Sohland or to Steinigtwolmsdorf. Only with the Counter-Reformation in Bohemia, during the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648), did this path lose its original meaning, since this church remained Catholic and the Reformation gained a foothold in Saxony. Many Bohemian exiles left their homeland (mostly) for religious reasons, settled near the border on the Saxon side and also helped the town of Wehrsdorf to continue to grow. The people of Wehrsdorf, who belonged to Protestantism, then went to the church in Sohland until their own church was built in 1725.
About 2/3 of this easily walkable path is identical to the old map material. On the Bohemian side it has disappeared through the merging of agricultural land in the hallway. As compensation, there is a direct connection via the newly planted, beautiful Ahornallee, which leads near the end of town in the direction of Röhrsdorf / Lisci directly to the border with Saxony. The now well-marked, cleared footpath from Hainspach to Wehrsdorf can be easily mastered in one hour. He encourages you to look into local history. Source: Tourist Information Sohland a.d. Spree
