Covered bridges were built from the late Middle Ages to the 19th century to protect the supporting (wood) elements from weathering. In addition, it was easier for horses to pass through windowless closed bridges, as they usually shy away from the rushing water.

The permitted vehicle height is three meters, and the roadway is 2.6 meters wide. The maximum load capacity is nine tons.
