In 370, the first monastery church (then a chapel) was consecrated. From 1431 there was a separate priest on Bernstein and since 1499 the "Forest Brothers" belonged to the Franciscan Order. Around 1730 the church and monastery were rebuilt by stonemason Joseph Feuerstein from Rottweil. The Schirmvogtei over monastery and church lay with Austria.
