Cagliari, this beautiful coastal city, not only enchants with its breathtaking location by the sea, but above all with its deep-rooted history that you can feel on every corner. This story is particularly impressive in the Castello district, where the Piazza Palazzo extends with the majestic Palazzo Reale.
The Palazzo Regio, also known as Viceregio, tells stories of a time when kings and viceroys held the fate of Sardinia in their hands. It was the residence of the representative of the King of Sardinia during the rule of the Aragonese, Spaniards and Savoyards. A building that has constantly changed and developed over the centuries, just like the city itself. Particularly impressive is the large staircase built in the 18th century that leads you to the main floor.
The western facade of the palace bears witness to its eventful history, and the inscription on the window frame that opens onto the central balcony commemorates the year 1769. It is fascinating to imagine how the royal family resided here between 1799 and 1815, while she was expelled from Napoleon-occupied Turin.
During your walk through Cagliari you will quickly notice that this city is alive and pulsating. The energetic atmosphere of the university town, the narrow streets of the old town that lead down to the harbor and the impressive viewpoints are just some of the treasures to be discovered.
