Place sadly famous for the 'Scalabron Mine' affair. Under the rocky spur of the Lunetta, the Italians dug a mine tunnel; the Austrians a countermine tunnel. On 8 June 1917 at 5.30pm, two days earlier than expected, probably due to lightning, the Italian mine exploded, causing the Austrian mine to also explode: 120 Italian soldiers of the Catania Brigade lost their lives together with some officers who, from the Lunetta observatory, were studying the enemy's positions in view of the imminent battle of Ortigara.

A monument and a stone commemorate this event. The crater caused by the mine has been cleaned and made visible; access to the tunnel is made difficult by the presence of debris. All around, trenches and military posts.
