A place sadly famous for the 'Mina di Scalabron' incident. Beneath the rocky spur of the Lunetta, the Italians dug a mine gallery; the Austrians a counter-mine gallery. On June 8, 1917, at 5:30 PM, two days earlier than scheduled, probably due to a lightning strike, the Italian mine exploded, also detonating the Austrian one: 120 Italian soldiers of the Catania Brigade lost their lives along with some officers who, from the observatory at the Lunetta, were studying the enemy's positions in view of the imminent Battle of Ortigara.
