Built in 1481, the tower mill served as a secure flour supply in the event of a siege.
In a favorable wind direction on the southwest side of the city, a mill tower with a diameter of 8.70 meters was built on a three-storey lower bastion. On February 7, 1642, a Hessian-French siege army made a breach in the wall next to the mill and conquered the town.
"Hessenwall" and "Hessenring" are still reminders of this today.
