The night pasture lake is located on the edge of the municipal boundary of Kahl between the Unterwald and the Prischoss. A road runs south towards Hörstein. The 12 ha [1] large lake is one of the Vorspessart lakes, which in turn are part of the Kahler Seenplatte. It is a quarry pond and arose from the Gries gravel pit. The night pasture lake is not completely fenced and freely accessible. Bathing is prohibited in the lake; however, it is used again and again for wild bathing. There is an overflow from the neighboring Neufeldsee to the Nachtweidesee. The entire area around the lake is designated as a water protection area. A drinking water well that promotes groundwater is operated on the southern bank.
