Tips

  • The Sint-Pieterskerk is the parish church of Haren, a parish of Bommershoven in the Belgian municipality Borgloon, and is located on the Singelstraat.
The church was founded by Corbie Abbey, which initially also held the right of patronage and the right of tithe.
Initially a Romanesque church stood here, the substructure of which is still present. In the 15th century a Gothic church was built on this substructure. In the years that followed, the church repeatedly fell into disrepair. The church was restored in the 2nd half of the 17th century, and the typical brick facade with marlstone layers was also created. Shortly after 1763, the choir was also rebuilt in brick and the original pointed arch windows were replaced by round arch windows

  • It is now under construction and it appears that it was urgently needed. You are not allowed to enter the yard, but the garden behind it is a real gem.

  • The church is located within the walled and treed cemetery, with some beautiful chestnuts and lime trees. The Haren Church is a very old, autonomous foundation. The Gothic nave from the 15th century rests on a Romanesque substructure. During the first half of the 17th century the church was repeatedly described as being in poor condition; Apparently a restoration took place in the second half of the 17th century, during which the facade was completely rebuilt in brick with layers of marlstone. In 1763 it was reported that the choir needed to be repaired; it was completely rebuilt in brick in the last quarter of the 18th century. The original pointed arch windows of the nave, of which remaining traces, were probably replaced by the current round arch windows, and the portal and window were installed in the western facade during this period. The sacristy also dates from this period.
