The village lies on a mountain slope above the valley of the Lima River, which narrows at this point. The town is overlooked by the castle, which was mentioned in documents as early as the 13th century.
Due to its location close to the border, Lindoso has always played an important role in military strategy, especially during the Restoration War between Portugal and Castile in 1640. The fortress was alternately in Spanish and Portuguese hands and only finally fell to the Portuguese in 1663. In the final phase of the war it was converted into a redoubt, the walls and sentry houses of which are well preserved.

Very nice castle complex and there is even a parking lot right next to the castle. The residents of the village of Lindoso are very friendly. Below the castle there is a very good restaurant with delicious regional dishes on the road. Above all, the food is very plentiful. We found that one serving of bacalhau is more than enough for two people.
