Today is Lisbora day 🎉, and it also happens to be the International Day Against Violence Against Women. To mark the occasion, we’ll be following a map - created through the collaborative effort and inputs of several people—that will take us through places with historical or symbolic significance for women’s independence and/or feminism in Lisbon ✊💜. We’ll finish at the iconic Mercado de Arroios. Below is the list of the points in the order we’ll encounter them, so you can recognize them as we pass by: • Parque Eduardo VII 🌳 – site of feminist protests and demonstrations, including the “strip-tease de contestação” organized by the MLM in 1975 + Jardim Amália Rodrigues • Jardim da Parada (Campo de Ourique) 🌺– statue of Maria da Fonte (1920), symbolizing the popular revolt of 1846 that she initiated. • Comissão para a Cidadania e a Igualdade de Género 🏛 – government body for citizenship and gender equality. • Cais do Sodré 💃🏼– historically a nightlife area considered “dangerous” for women at night. • Pensão Amor 💗 – symbolic place in the history of sexual freedom. • Largo de São Domingos 🕊 – ending point of the march against violence toward women. • Place where Carolina Beatriz Ângelo voted in 1911 🗳, becoming the first woman to vote in Portugal. • Jardim Constantino 🌿 – location of the APAV (Associação Portuguesa de Apoio à Vítima) office.
