The "Path to Wilderness" was officially opened on November 9, 2022 :)
It's a 250-meter-long information trail on the Reitsteig trail near Winterberg. Designed as a wooden walkway, it runs above—not on—the ground. This provides visitors with unique perspectives on the diversity and vitality of the new forest, which has regenerated spontaneously since Winter Storm Kyrill (2007) and the subsequent bark beetle infestation. The walkway also provides better protection for various habitats, such as an anthill.
