"It is wonderful to take a walk around the Schermbeck mill ponds - completely relaxed in the shade of the trees. Paths lead directly along the banks in large areas. In the past, the ponds were regularly frozen over in winter and served as an ice skating rink for entire generations. In the warmer seasons, they are a playground and romping place for ducks and swans. There is something incredibly calming about the view across the water into the light rows of birch trees and the dense branches of weeping willows that dip their tips into the pond. Life around the pond may change every day - but here everything stays the same when swans quietly circle around."
