"...The Salm is a left tributary of the Moselle.
It rises in the Salmwald south of Gerolstein near Salm in the Eifel and flows into the wine town of Klüsserath. The length is 63.4 km and the catchment area is 298.5 km². The course of the river is largely natural or near-natural.
In ancient times the river was called Salmona and is mentioned by Ausonius. The name of the river is probably derived from the Salm, i.e. the salmon, which had excellent spawning waters and was plentiful in the Salm until 1930.
The Himmerod Monastery is located near Großlittgen an der Salm. ..."
