The four-wing complex was built in the Renaissance as a moated castle, but also shows a late Gothic gable.

Worth seeing castle with park in Sallgast.
Should fall victim to the Klettwitz Nord opencast mine, but that never happened.

The castle was built as a moated castle in the 12th century. The 360 m² facility resembles a robber baron's castle. During the Thirty Years War the castle was besieged by Swedish troops but not taken. It was converted into a four-wing castle. The extensive castle park was laid out by Robert von Loebenstein around 1880 and expanded in 1911.
In 1989 the village and Sallgast Castle were threatened with demolition, as the Klettwitz-Nord open-cast lignite mine was to be expanded towards the village. After German reunification in 1990, these plans were not pursued any further.
Today Sallgast Castle is used by the municipal administration. The castle park is generally accessible. In addition to a local history museum, the castle also has a hotel, conference room, bridal suite and registry office.
