Hiking
Tens of thousands of ducks were fattened each year in open-water systems, with high stocking densities of up to 10,000 ducks per hectare.
Fattening was carried out using automatic feeders, and the animals were kept in heated pens during the winter.
The main problems were losses due to predators (foxes, martens) and weather-related losses, especially in spring.
Duck droppings served as fertilizer and increased fish production in the ponds.
