Very small village of ancient origins which takes its name from the Boffelli family. The BOFFELLI family seems to have originated in S. Pietro D'Orzio, once a vast autonomous municipality and today a fraction of S. Giovanni Bianco. Tarcisio Salvetti and Giuseppe Giupponi in their publications on this town, indicate the presence of the family since ancient times and in any case documented since the early years of the sixteenth century. Pellegrino del Grumo, in 1562 was one of the two "arbitrators" appointed for the definition of a hereditary dispute, between the two daughters of Vistallo Zignoni (the famous warrior who brought the relic of the Holy Thorn to S. Giovanni Bianco); in a document dated 29 October 1653, Antonio is mentioned with four other "mayors" and the "consul" of S. Pietro D'Orzio, as representing their Municipality, in a deed of sale with the Zignoni family for "all that quantity of wood suitable for charring, placed and located in the so-called Foppa di Asen and Riva Vaga woods as far as the borders of Dossena ". Also in Fuipiano al Brembo, once an autonomous municipality and now a hamlet of San Giovanni Bianco, members of this family have been documented since ancient times, whose presence can be attributed the name of the district called Cà Boffelli. In 1607 the Parish of Don Bartolomeo Boffelli ruled. Some members of this family belonged to the famous Compagnia dei Caravana or Camalli of Genoa whose peculiar history begins around 1300. Due to the sad social conditions of the time, the factional wars that bloodied our countries, the plague, famine as well as the fiscal oppression of the Visconti of Milan, emigration from our valleys was favored. Thus it was that some villagers moved to the port of Genoa and, improvising themselves as porters, made their fortune, gaining the exclusive right to unload all the goods in the port.
