The Hiltpoltsteiner Tor together with the neighboring Mesnerhaus was used as a residence from 1545, partly also as a prison for Gräfenberg citizens and was owned by the Nuremburg care office until 1708. It then became the property of the city until 1810 and was the residence of a city night watchman. It was privately owned from 1810 to 1900 before the city bought it back.

During a restoration in 1925, Georg Prell completed the painting on the outside, which was renewed in detail during the restoration by the Friends of the Old Town.

The sexton's house was built on the inside of the city wall and renovated in 1615. Until 1859 it was owned by the church foundation and the sacristan's apartment, who was often also a teacher. In the years 1838 - 1859 it was also the "elementary school" and up to 60 children were taught here in the first and second grade.
