The St. Michaelis chapel once stood on the Michaelsberg above the city. Perhaps the missionary of Frankonia Boniface had already consecrated it. Down in the valley, the burgraves of Nuremberg had the town church built on an old trade route in 1248. The church burned down five times in the course of history, only the original remains from the Romanesque period have been preserved at the bottom of the tower. A baroque nave was added to the Gothic choir and expanded several times to form a spacious hall.
The crowned pulpit was created around 1700 and directly opposite the governor's lodge with direct access from the New Palace, as was the sandstone baptismal font. The large pewter baptismal font with the donor's details has a diameter of 80 cm. The light streams through the structure of the altar with the large cross, above which the golden halo shines, with the Hebrew name of God "Yahweh" in the middle.
The epitaphs or tombstones of the governors on the walls bear witness to Nuremberg rule. In the oldest part of the church on the west side, the "Läutkammer", a prayer room has found its place, also to commemorate the war dead.
