Torii are the most prominent feature of a Shinto shrine. These are gates made of wood or stone, which are often painted vermilion and mark the border from the profane to the sacred. Here begins the temple area.

From here it gets really crowded on public holidays and Sundays. To the left and right of the temple there are many market stalls with different traditional Japanese food. The dishes are usually around 500 yen.
