Since 1876, the site of today's youth hostel (Konrad-Adenauer-Ring 2) in Bad Oldesloe has been a bathing area. In 1891, wooden changing rooms were built. In 1914, the old river bathing establishment was built. It is now a listed building. In 1936, after the Trave was regulated, it was rebuilt. To the left of the small bathhouse, the current entrance building of the youth hostel was built. In 1956, bathing in the Trave was banned due to environmental pollution.
