This striking wall tower is located on the most heavily fortified east side of the Hettstedt city wall. It served as a watchtower and was nicknamed "Sugar Loaf" because of its pyramid-shaped brick top. Except for this stone cone, which served as a defense for the defender, the tower is similar to the Molmeck tower. From the tower there was a direct defensive route to the Saigertor.

The tower, built in 1434, was also called the "Witches' Tower" by the people. Many citizens believed that women who were considered witches in the Middle Ages were imprisoned here only to later die a miserable death. Only later, in the second half of the 18th century, was a two-storey residential building and prison built on the tower on the remains of the city wall, which served as a prison until the 1930s.
