Extensive slag finds on the field northwest of the fish ponds prove the former existence of a blast furnace at this location. It is quite obvious that lump ore was smelted here, which was recovered using winch shafts on the Wuhläcker plot of land immediately to the north. The fact that iron ore was already being mined here in the Middle Ages is documented by a deed of donation from 1244 and two documents about border disputes from the 15th century.
