Best Hikes to Gardoš Tower (Tower of Janos Hunyadi)

Tips

  • The most prominent point of the quarter is the Gardoš Tower on the top of the hill, which offers a wide view over Zemun, the Danube River and downtown Belgrade. Also known as Kula Sibinjanin Janka (“The Tower of Janos Hunyadi”), it was opened on August 20, 1896. Although Austria-Hungary, on whose territory Gardoš was then, invaded Serbia in 1914, the tower remained undamaged during the war. There are a few cafes and restaurants on the bank of the Danube below Gardoš Hill, as well as on the slope above the Danube.Source: Wikipedia

  • An “outpost” of the Habsburg Empire until the beginning of the First World War. From the hill you have a great view towards Belgrade and over the Danube.
