This flood and smoke water pumping station in Rodenkirchen is the southernmost of a total of seven new pumping stations that were put into operation between 2007 and 2011. They are important elements of Cologne's flood protection and, like this one, are characterized by their special architectural design.

The pumping station has a twofold task. It has to pump the amount of groundwater, including the flood relief, out of the Rhine. The pumping system creates a total flow rate of 8000 liters. per second, which corresponds to around 50 bathtub fillings.
