The synagogue in Novi Sad was designed by Hungarian-Jewish architect Lipót Baumhorn and was the fifth in the city's history. It was built on the site of an older synagogue from around 1826. Two buildings also belonged to either side of the synagogue; one served as a Jewish elementary school – today the Middle Ballet School in Novi Sad – the other building served the Ashkenazim Jewish community, which also owned the synagogue. The synagogue mixes several architectural styles and is very reminiscent of the synagogue of Szeged, which is considered the pinnacle of Baumhorn's work. At the entrance is written in Hebrew, "Ki beti, bet tefila ikara l'kol haamim" (Eng. "for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations," Isaiah 56:7). A sad period in the history of the synagogue is World War II, when Jews were imprisoned here before being deported to concentration camps. The synagogue has been a listed building since 1991.

It is an impressive building. There are a few panels about the history of the synagogue. (in English)
