The "Fichtebunker" in Berlin-Kreuzberg is not only huge with a diameter of 56 m, but also the oldest and now only surviving stone gasometer in Berlin. The building was built between 1874 and 1876 as the second of four gasometers to supply the street lamps. During the Second World War it was converted into an air raid shelter that offered space for up to 6,000 people. Since October 2007, 13 "pie-shaped" single-family homes - so-called "circle houses" - with curved walls, their own garden at a height of 21 m and a fantastic view over the city have been built under the striking steel dome of the listed bunker.
