In the picturesque outer district of Hietzing, surrounded by the tranquility of elegant residences and the fragrance of blooming gardens, stands the magnificent villa that served as Gustav Klimt's studio between 1911 and 1918. Here, in this neo-Baroque oasis, he created some of his most important works—masterpieces that embody the essence of art not only in Vienna, but far beyond.

Klimt's influence is omnipresent; his colors resonate in people's hearts, while the stories surrounding his art often fade in the shadows of time. Looted art, returned art, and the disappearance of numerous works speak of a complex past deeply intertwined with the artist's biography. Amidst these memories stands Erwin Kastner's sculpture, erected on the villa's south side in the anniversary year of 2022. It depicts the master painter in his vulnerable essence, allowing his shadow to come alive in the interplay of sunlight.

Klimt himself never saw the villa he sees today; it was more of a summer house with a huge garden surrounding it. The small museum is beautifully designed, and the guided tour was informative and highly recommended, before you explore on your own. There's also a small shop selling souvenirs.
