No reliable statements can be made about the origin of a church and community in Fischeln. According to the legend, St. Willibrord (+ 739) - he was surnamed Clemens - to have built a church on the site of an old temple. There was probably a sill beam church here in the 10th century, a small rectangular building to which a nave was added perhaps in the 11th century and then the still preserved tower in the 12th century.

In the middle of the 19th century Fischeln's population had grown considerably. The church was therefore expanded according to the plan by Vinzenz Statz: in 1867 the eastern part was demolished and the mighty transept was built. On October 14, 1868 was the solemn consecration.
